Our Feature on Q100 — The Bert Show

When Covid hit — I was so uncertain of what the next few months would look like. I already feel that each month there’s always a level of uncertainty but this just took it to another level.

Scared, defeated and hopeful is what I felt most but I knew that I have worked so hard to get to where I am today and I couldn’t let this beat me.

When the Bert Show was offering help to small businesses that have been effected by the pandemic I was hopeful.

Since my son Jaiden was a year old I had been listening to the show every morning on my long commute to Jaiden’s day care. Having my son was the greatest gift but I also faced many challenges. It was 2013, I was 9 months pregnant and my father died while traveling to India. He promised to make it back before the due date. While my mother was in utter shock we wanted to get her to India to attend my dads funeral. I was told I could not travel so she left with my brother in hopes to find some closure when reaching India.

While on the plane my moms distress took a major toll on her heart and she ended up having something similar to a heart attack. They had to divert the plane somewhere outside of Canada for a emergency landing to take mom to the hospital. She never made my dads funeral.

While all this was going on over seas — I was pretty much a hot mess. No sleep, constant worrying and crying drove my Blood Pressure to high that I had to be induced for labor. My body was weak. Mentally and emotionally.

Jaiden was born and rushed to NICU where he stayed for 3 weeks.

When returning home with Jaiden and trying to find a routine for myself was extremely difficult. Everything just seemed unreal. I felt out of place. The only thing that felt familiar to me was making candles. Something I have been doing for so long. It clamed me. It made me forget about all the “stuff” that I was dealing within inside.

My dream was to take my hobby/ my start up into something greater. The distraction that it gave me was powerful and basically my creative brain would not let me rest.

My morning commutes to drop Jaiden to day care always involved the Bert Show. Jaiden is now 8 years old and ever since he was little I have been and will remain a HUGE fan.

When becoming a new mom I felt like I started to live in this bubble. And the outside world was starting become more unfamiliar. But listening to Bert and his team made me laugh, cry, inspired and just filled my mornings with some pure entertainment that I really craved.

My struggle with my small business has had its fair share of ups and downs. But I refuse to give up. Being a feature on the Bert Show and the love and support from our community and customers makes all of the struggles and late nights worth it.

Although, the uncertainty still remains. My every day fuel to keep going is still in full effect.

Thank You Q100! You have no idea how much your support means to me!
